Oracle AI World fills the Venetian Convention & Expo Center through Wednesday, and Ai Dev Craft runs at Red Rock on Tuesday and Wednesday, so plenty of AI vendors will be pitching in town this week. Use one rule: a tool only earns a follow-up if it can handle one task your team already does by hand, using a sample of your own data. A polished demo on someone else's dataset doesn't count. Today, pick that task, strip a small sample of anything sensitive, and save it on your laptop so you can ask every vendor you meet to run it.

The Townsite data center approval is set aside, and BLM starts over. Last week the Boulder City project was on hold over its environmental review. On Oct. 15, the Interior Board of Land Appeals granted the Bureau of Land Management's request to set aside its June approval of the data center on federal land, so the agency now has to conduct a new environmental review before it can decide on the project again. via Review-Journal · via Nevada Current
A hospice app built by a Las Vegas bellman makes the Gemini XPRIZE Top 100. Lorenz Valdez, who describes himself as a Las Vegas resort bellman, built LifeGuide on his own, a web app that helps hospice families with paperwork, doctor visits and 2 a.m. questions through a Gemini-powered companion. It made the Top 100 of the $2M Build with Gemini XPRIZE, run by XPRIZE with Google, which drew more than 26,000 registered builders. It didn't place when prizes were awarded in September, and Valdez says he's now looking for a hospice pilot partner and aiming for an App Store launch next year. via Devpost · via XPRIZE
